My mother moved away from Scottsdale ten years ago, to New Hampshire.  It was for a man, my stepfather, just three years after our father died.  I don’t like her new husband, but that was her decision.  Generally, I don’t visit her unless she pays for the airfare.  Well, they’ve had health and money problems this year and I feel obligated to go and spend time with them at Christmas. So it will have to be on my dime.

But when I went online to look at airfares, it would take an awful lot of dimes. Fares are coming in at $600, depending on which day I travel. The only thing I could sell to get that kind of money would be my car.  I need it for work, so I couldn’t do that. 

But that got the wheels turning in my head.  I went online after passing an auto title loan company on Main Street in Mesa, and found out my seven year old Nissan qualified for a loan of about $800. I have bad credit, but they don’t care about that — your car is your collateral. I went with Car Title Loans in Scottsdale because their online application is very simple. I was able to get fast cash which turned out to be very important.

I bought that ticket with my debit card ASAP.  The airfares went up $120 three days after I bought that flight.
